DRAGGED OUT (article first published : 2007-06-24)

The Family Players, the pro-active group responsible for turning a little-used MOTH Shellhole into a thriving community theatre, will present Dragged Out at Rhumbelow. The show is a rerun of a previous highly successful season and includes a collection of audience favourites from the last six years.

“In June 2007, The Rhumbelow Theatre will have celebrated six years and in that time, we have had over 70 shows, hosting some 100 performers,” explains Roland Stansell of The Family Players. “Our first show paid for the toilet alterations and some six years later, we have a stunning little venue in Umbilo. Who would have said that this venue would continue to thrive for these six years? This places us well on the map as a strong and well equipped Fringe Theatre offering opportunity for performers and shows alike. 2007 started off with a bang, and we have a full packed line up for theatre patrons for the balance of the year.”

Dragged Out features Greg Baptie, Derek Pearce, Alan Quihampton, Gino Veronie and Roland Stansell. Performances take place on July 13 at 20h00 and July 15 at 18h30 (the show on July 14 is a sold-out fund-raiser). The venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner.

Tickets R60. Take along food picnic baskets and braais will be available. There is limited secure parking and booking is essential. A cash bar is available (no alcohol may be brought on to the premises). Rhumbelow Theatre is situated in Cunningham Avenue off Bartle Road.

To book contact Roland on 031 205 7602 (h) or 082 499 8636, email roland@stansell.za.net or visit www.rhumbelow.za.net
