SPEED DATE (article first published : 2007-04-28)

Spend an evening at Speed Date at Rhumbelow Theatre this weekend with Doctor Date, as Average Joe resorts to speed dating in order to meet that special someone at date@eight.com

This vibrant musical review, which introduces some of Durban’s finest up- and- coming teenage talent, is written and directed by Pippa McHale of White Butterfly Productions assisted by Luke Holder (LoUD Productions). The all-male cast of seven presents a variety of well-known songs that revolve around women and their names plus contemporary popular numbers such as Snow Patrol’s Chasing Cars and Justin Timberlake’s Senorita. Sit back and enjoy musical medleys from the Beatles, the Beach Boys and Simon & Garfunkle. This session of musical speed dating provides the opportunity to “meet” women such as Jessie, Roxanne, Layla, Mustang Sally, Delilah, Sweet Caroline and even Stacy’s Mom.

The cast includes Devin Moller, Sam Mgobozi, Joshua Kay, Graeme Wicks, Nicholas Stead, Vedarsha Singh as Doctor Date and introduces Durban’s newest rising pop-star, Andrew Martin. Luke Holder, will be date@eight.com's in- house musician demonstrating his musical prowess on the keyboard.

The production is presented by White Butterfly and has performances on April 26, 27 and 28 at 20h00 with a further performance on April 29 at 18h30. The venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner.

Tickets R60. Take along food picnic baskets and braais will be available. There is limited secure parking and booking is essential. A cash bar is available (no alcohol may be brought on to the premises). Rhumbelow Theatre is situated in Cunningham Avenue off Bartle Road.
