JUST THE TWO OF US (article first published : 2007-02-11)

Electric love duo Durban Diva Pinkie Mtshali and the charming Kobus van Niekerk will serenade audiences the weekend after Valentineís Day at Rhumbelow Theatre with a slick sophisticated yet hilarious cabaret called Just the Two of Us. Their delicious dashing presentation will include songs such as Ebony and Ivory and their South African version of Island in the Stream, the famous duet by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, amongst others.

Born in Gauteng, Kobus van Niekerk moved to Durban to pursue his musical career and won various awards at local eisteddfods. He has been guest singer with the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, is a member of the Durban Symphonic Choir and has performed in productions such as Far from the Madding Crowd and Bravissimo and is the lead singer of the Afrikaans band Janee and will be releasing a CD later this year.

No stranger to Durban audiences, popular award-winning Pinkie Mtshali has appeared in numerous successful productions such Showboat; Porgy and Bess, Faust and Debut with Mimi Coertse as well as numerous cabaret shows with artists like Joseph Clark and Aviva Pelham. She has sung in concert with the KZN Philharmonic, City and KZN youth orchestra, Capetown Philharmonic orchestra and the Johannesburg City orchestra. Pinkie is the founder and director of the popular Durban Divas and in August she will star in a one-woman show called Divalicious.

Shows take place on February 16 and 17 at 20h00 and February 18 at 18h30. The venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner.

Tickets R60. Take along food picnic baskets and braais will be available. There is limited secure parking and booking is essential. A cash bar is available (no alcohol may be brought on to the premises). Rhumbelow Theatre is situated in Cunningham Avenue off Bartle Road.
