GOOD VIBES (article first published : 2000-07-21)

It’s time for another musical outpouring of good vibrations as Themi Venturas Productions in association with the Langoustine Supper Theatre proudly present the 10th anniversary season of Themi Venturas’ Good Vibrations – The Next Generation

The show will run from August 21 to October 1 at the Langoustine Supper Theatre in Durban North.

Good Vibrations, the hit supper theatre musical that has wowed audiences from Durban to Cape Town to Zimbabwe to Swaziland, Zambia and Botswana, is now back in its place of origin. The hits of the Beetles, the Beach Boys, the Platters, the Bee Gees make up a fun and highly entertaining show which takes a look at the 60’s through the eyes of teenager Suzy Johnston. Through her experiences we see this era unfolding from John F Kennedy’s untimely death to the advent of the pill and the dawning of the Age of Aquarius with man landing on the moon.

During its ten-year history, Good Vibrations has seen many of this country’s top performers appear in the show. The original cast featured Themi Venturas, Aaron McIlroy, Arnie Field, Hughie Louw and Natasha Sutherland (now appearing in Egoli). Since then the likes of Gary McKenzie, John Didlick, Clinton Philander, Percy Smith, Richard Swift, Daryl Fuchs and Grant Bell have taken part. Since Natasha Sutherland brought her to life, up to 15 different female performers have taken the part of Suzy. Another Good Vibration-ist who has gone on to higher things is the inimitable James Ncgobo who recently completed a production in England with Janet Suzman.

The season at the Langoustine will include three up-and-coming stars fresh from a successful season of Venturas’ new musical The Guitar that Rocked the World - Greig Pilkington, Neels Boshoff and Shanthan. Also included in the line-up will be a live backing band – the first time since the successful Cellar seasons that a live band will be featured.
