DEFENDING THE PLANET IS BACK (article first published : 2007-01-1)

Back by popular demand, Heritage Theatre audiences should stand by for super-charged comedy duo Aaron McIlroy and Lisa Bobbert in the return of their smash hit take on alien abductions.

Defending the Planet is back this festive season for a run at the Heritage Theatre in Hillcrest. Audiences will experience a close encounter of the third (or fourth or fifth) kind when this zany husband and wife couple pool their formidable talent in their most hilarious musical comedy to date, written and directed by Sue Monteregge.

The story focuses on a self-help group of victims of alien abductions, formed to examine these and other close encounters of various kinds. Typical of McIlroy’s unique comedic style, Defending the Planet discusses the trauma of victims who have been “probed” by aliens.

By means of “case scenarios”, off-the-wall characters and an eclectic range of foot-stomping music, suggestions are made as to how one can deal with an “invasion” and how to avoid falling victim to these outlandish creatures. The show is a must for anyone who has ever wondered about extra-terrestrial activity and above all, enjoys an entertaining evening of music and laughter.

Defending the Planet runs from January 16 to February 27. Bookings on 031 765 4197.

Marc Banks will follow Defending the Planet with a new show titled It’s the Bank’s Fault which will run until April 15.
