BAROCK AND ROLL (article first published : 2006-10-29)

Stacey Almond, Atina Petrova and David Daniel are to present their new classical crossover show BaRock and Roll at Rhumbelow Theatre.

Crossover classical music with style, the show combines opera and electric violin in the latest fusion of up-tempo backing with some of the world’s greatest music. These three talented artists give the classics a new vibe and on the lighter side, combining great musicianship and experience with some of the hottest hits around!

Soprano Stacey Almond will perform a variety of opera arias and musical items - all with a beat backing! The programme includes Livin’ La Vida Loca, Woman in Love, Kiss for a Rose, Masquerade Medley from Phantom of the Opera, I Finally Found Someone, Nella Fantasia, Time to Say Goodbye and special arrangements of Puccini’s Luce van le Stelle from La Bohème and Mozart’s Queen of the Night.

On the electric violin, Atina Petrova will perform original arrangements of Pacalbel’s Canon, Cabaret, the theme from the film Chocolate, Purcell’s Rondo, Holtz’s Jupiter and more.

They will be supported by David Daniel on piano with vocal back up, performing his own original arrangements and tracks for many of the new numbers. Classical Crossover’s music is an original approach to timeless classics from the opera and orchestral world, combined with favourites from pop and hit musicals.

BaRock and Roll has performances at Rhumbelow Theatre on November 17 and 18 at 20h00 and on November 19 at 18h30. The venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner.
