JUKE BOX HERO (article first published : 2006-08-8)

Juke Box Hero, currently showing at The Barnyard Theatre, is a celebration of some of the finest hits from the last six decades. Audiences are having loads of fun and laughs as they are able to select the play list for the show; a format that makes for fantastic entertainment.

Mathew Stewardson (former Idols presenter) is an amiable host who is quick off the mark with his humour and equally adept on vocals in numbers such as Sweet Caroline. Durbanís Shanthan Pillay handles the Elvis and Queen tributes and slips into the role of George Michael. He teams up with James Dobson (as Elton John) on the piano for a memorable rendition of the classic crowd-pleaser Donít Let The Sun Go Down On Me.

Also appearing are two new female vocalists to The Barnyard, Liezel Pieters and Sheryl Crow, as well as Naseera Timm.

Adding to the vocals are guitarist Adrian Beecham and musical director and keyboardist James Dobson supported by Ringo Nduzo on bass guitar, Colin Heaney on drums and Rike Coetzer on saxophone.

The audience drives the show in Juke Box Hero. In order to participate, you must fill in a dedication form at the reception desk. This must be completed and handed in 30 minutes before the show starts, choosing songs from the set list provided. Matthew then introduces audience selections and read out the dedications for each show.

Tickets R100 pp booked through The Barnyard Theatre on 031 566 3045, visit www.barnayrdtheatre.co.za or e-mail gateway@barnyardtheatre.co.za for more information.
