HARVEST MOON (article first published : 2006-04-13)

Harvest Moon will be shining on The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway until May 7. Billed as an acoustic rock show, it offers different genres of music. Rock, folk and country merge together in one showstopper. With all this in the mix, it may be hard to define but it’s easy to endorse.

Song selection has been narrowed down to famous hits from a wide selection of artists such as Simon & Garfunkel, Cat Stevens, The Eagles, Rod Stewart, John Denver, Neil Diamond, Sheryl Crow, REM, Sting, Neil Diamond and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

Harvest Moon features some of the most beautiful songs and moments to savour. Instruments like the banjo, mandolin and fiddle as well as the acoustic and electric guitars complement a 10-piece cast of highly talented individuals.

Audiences can expect to hear everything from Grandma’s Feather Bed to Sounds of Silence, Blowing In The Wind and American Pie, to First Cut Is The Deepest, Losing My Religion and Cotton Eyed Joe.

“It may be The Barnyard, but audiences shouldn’t expect a barndance!” say the organisers.

The cast comprises a host of multi-talented members all who have been featured in various shows at the venue previously, including Kieran Rennie (vocals and guitar), Percy Smith (vocals), Petro de Villiers (vocals), Dawn Selby (keyboards), Johan Liebenberg (guitars and vocals), Barry Thomson (guitars, mandolin, banjo and vocals), Mark Freel (bass guitar), Mali Sewell (drums) and Adri Naude (violin).

Tickets R90 (unfortunately the Buy One Get One Free promotions are sold out). For bookings and enquiries, phone The Barnyard Theatre on 031 566 3045.
