ROCKING FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE (article first published : 2006-03-19)

The Enriching Young Lives Initiative will hold their inaugural fundraising function at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway on March, 22 with the show Rock Around The Clock.

The objective of The Enriching Young Lives Initiative is to positively influence the greatest number of young people, in as many communities, in the shortest amount of time as possible, through providing effective, comprehensive and supportive youth services.

Youth programmes and services, in out-of-school hours, provide opportunities to re-direct youth from unproductive and potentially destructive activities to developmentally rich and rewarding alternatives.

“Our mission is to engage children and young people in a variety of constructive, challenging and developmentally age-appropriate activities that promote positive development and encourages youth to explore beyond their perceived limitations, while they realise their full potential and develop skills, values, competencies and knowledge that will shape their lives. By harnessing the non-school hours, we are able to address the critical development needs of young people as well as meet the needs of parents, family, community and society.” said Robert Gibson, Founder and Executive Director of the initiative.

The Barnyard Theatre was targeted as the ideal venue to hold such a fundraiser, due to the good quality youth-friendly environment and entertainment provided, while Rock Around The Clock looks back at an era of naivety. (See review in Supper Theatre)

Rock Around the Clock is a non-stop nostalgic party that takes audiences back to a decade of innocence and an age of discovery when people enjoyed life to the full and rocked like there was no tomorrow.

Tickets for the performance on March 22 are R90 (R60 scholars) booked through Robert Gibson on 082 443 7360 or e-mail: youthcore619@hotmail.com
