DOCKYARD MASTERS RETURN (article first published : 2006-03-4)

Responding to public demand, The Dockyard brings back a popular concept with Masters of Rock Volume2.

Almost three years have passed since Masters of Rock first graced the Dockyard stage featuring tributes to Led Zeplin, Deep Purple, Toto, Black Sabbath and others. Volume 2 delves further into the music of these Masters of Rock. Exciting new Durban talent will be showcasing these bands and more under the direction of Dockyard owner, Stuart Mey who is known for the accuracy of his tributes.

Chris Brink, who made his début at the Dockyard during One More Night, the Phil Collins’ tribute will be taking a more dominant role with his mastery of the guitar. The Dockyard also welcomes into the fold singers Welsh-born Mike Thomas and former Doowah boy, Wayne Delport (fresh from the cabaret circuit in Turkey).

The show is based on the passing of the Rock mantle from one generation to another – Dockyard’s Musical Director, Bruce Boome will be sharing his expertise with his protégé, Chris, thereby ensuring that classic rock music survives. Songs such as Deep Purple’s Highway Star, Led Zeplin’s Whole Lotta Love and Stairway to Heaven, the Who’s Who Are You? (CSI theme) and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Sweet Home Alabama are but some to be featured - each one a golden classic in its own right.

Masters of Rock Volume2.runs at the Dockyard Supper Theatre stage from March 2 to April 16. Tickets R150pp includes a two-course meal (R80pp Sunday specials). The Dockyard also introduces a health/slimmer’s option to the menu. Health-conscious patrons and diabetics can look forward to a starter, main and optional dessert all low in GI and calories with no added sugar.

Booking through Karen or Melissa on 031 332 1086.
