HARBOUR JAZZ (article first published : 2001-02-18)

On February 23 and 24, four of South Africa's top jazz musicians will launch Jazz at the BAT, a brand new series of concerts at the BAT Centre.

The Melvin Peters Quartet, comprising ace pianist Melvin Peters, Jeff Robinson on flute and saxophones, Bongani Sokhela on bass and Sean Petersen on drums, will open the series which promises to attract crowds of jazz-lovers to Durban's harbour-side arts and culture centre.

Future acts will include Theo Bophela and Nqwelo, Iva, Neil Gonsalves and Mageshen, Norwegian guitarist Aspin and many others. As a special launch bonus, admission to the launch concerts on February 23 and 24 is free and entry will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Both concerts are scheduled to begin at 20h00 and will take place at the BAT Cafe.

On March 2 and 3, Theo Bophela and his band Nqwelo are scheduled for the second Jazz at the BAT weekend.
