AK MASSIVE (article first published : 2000-10-24)

After an “awesome debut gig” at the Winston, the AK Massive expects to cause mayhem alongside Ska Rockers Copper Penny at Burn in Durban on October 28.

AK Massive play what they call rock hop: “A blend of hip hop and alternative rock, it is perhaps best described as a mixture of Rage Against the Machine's anger and politicism, The Smashing Pumkpin's sweeping melodies and flowing guitar soundscapes and The Deftone's sheer intensity. Unafraid to be South African, unafraid to cause controversy, AK Massive’s lyrics are about the usual things: love, paying the rent and having a gun stuck through your window whilst driving home from work. “

One of Durban’s most original bands, the energetic three-piece AK Massive comprises lead guitarist Mark McMahon, percussionist Brett Langton and rhythm guitar/bassist Bruce Graham The gig starts at 21h30 and entrance is R10.
