IMAGINARY QUARTET (article first published : 2000-10-15)

The University of Natal Durbanís Music Schoolís free lunch-hour concert in Howard College Theatre on October 16 at 12h15 will feature the Imaginary Quartet.

Conceived early in 1999, the Imaginary Quartet combines the talents of three very different musicians from Durban in the creation of a music that is at once unique. The dialogue and musical synthesis in which guitarist Syd Kitchen, bassist Dan Wilson and drummer Wesley Gibbens engage has thrilled audiences wherever they have played. Apart from a few concerts in Durban, the group has appeared at the Oppikoppi Easter Festival, Splashy Fen Music Festival and the Southern Cross Music Festival in 2000.

With a debut CD currently in production, audiences can look forward to listening to the IQ's eclectic fusion of styles that moves freely between mainstream swing, through punk-jazz, afro-jazz; indeed, whatever jazz is jumpin'.
