BT VOICES FOR HOSPICES (article first published : 2000-08-15)

For 24 hours on 14 October 2000 the whole world will reverberate to Handelís glorious Hallelujah Chorus as over 500 hospices on every continent, including 44 in Southern Africa, take part in BT Voices for Hospices 2000. At 19h30 on that day, KZN will be amongst the participating regions when hundreds of choirs and audiences worldwide lift their voices for hospices.

Included in the provinceís ten concerts at various venues throughout the region will be performances by well-known singers such as the Drakensberg Boys Choir, KZN Chorale, the Portnet Choir, the Durban Serenade and the Kearsney Choir, as well as other local choirs. The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra will also be taking part in this unique event.

Attendance at this event is a must - not only for music lovers but for anyone who recognises the invaluable role that hospices play in our country. Concerts for local hospices will be held at the following venues:

Chatsworth Hospice (Arena Park Regional Hall); Empangeni Hospice (To be announced); Estcourt (Estcourt Town Hall); Highway Hospice (Durban City Hall); Ladysmith Hospice (Ladysmith High School); Lighthouse/Umkomaas (Scottburgh High School Hall); Msunduzi, PMB (Pietermaritzburg City Hall); Newcastle (St Dominicís Academy); South Coast, Port Shepstone (Norwegian Church) and Vryheid Hospice (Inkamana Abbey).

The concerts all start at different times so watch the local press for individual concert details and other information.. More details from Anthea Johnston on (031) 261-7225, fax:(031) 261-8072 or Cell 083 775-7225. e-mail: johnston@iafrica.com
