BACH AND FORBAY (article first published : 2000-07-24)

Based in Pietermaritzburg, Christopher Duiganís Music Revival society is back on track after a short break.

On July 28 at 19h30, he will perform a programme titled The Music of JS Bach. The year 2000 is the 250th anniversary of Bach's death on 28 July 1750. To commemorate this important date Christopher Duigan will play music by the great composer whose work has been described as pure and universal. The programme provides an overview of Bach's compositions for keyboard and includes a Toccata, dance suites in the French and German styles, extracts from the Well Tempered Clavier and well-known melodies including Jesu Joy of Mans Desiring as well as the aria from the Goldberg Variations (70 mins)

The performance takes place at live@35 which is situated at 35 Montgomery Drive, Athlone, Pietermaritzburg. Tickets at R40 include sherry, coffee and biscuits.

Well-known soprano Bronwen Forbay presents a winning programme of music from the world of opera and musicals with Christopher Duigan at the Grillroomcafe on July 31 at 19h00. The programme includes popular favourites such as Habanera from Carmen, Ebben? from La Wally, Summertime, You'll Never Walk Alone, music from Les Miserables and Barber of Seville. Browen leaves Durban at the end of August to study in the United States on a Fullbright Scholarship.

Tickets at R85 include soup, pasta and coffee. The Grillroomcafe is situated on the corner of Florida & Musgrave Roads, opposite Mitchell Park.

Booking is essential for both concerts. Phone (031) 312-3456 or telephone/fax (033) 342-3051 or e mail chris@musicrevival.co.za
