LOW PRICE PREVIEWS (article first published : 2000-06-23)

For the budget-conscious, director Themi Venturas is offering five low-price previews for his high-energy exciting new family stage musical The Guitar that Rocked the World. This “rockin' and rollin' celebration” of the much-adored Fender Stratocaster guitar will run in the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from June 29 until July 2.

Low-priced previews are available on June 29 and 30 at 19h30, July 1 at 18h00 and 21h00 and July 2 at 18h00. Tickets R30 (normal price R49 and R55). The performance on June 30 at 19h30 is a fundraiser for the Natal Association for the Deaf. The association has kindly made their hall available to the cast for rehearsals.

In his tribute to the all-American icon, the Fender Strat (as it is fondly known), Themi aims to capture a sense of the allure, influence and obsession of this instrument. The production will be of a similar magnitude to Buddy Holly and Return of the Forbidden Planet with performers, a live band and a chorus of dancers and singers. It has been written and directed by Themi Venturas with Barry Thompson as musical director and Peter Court as set designer and responsible for the musical staging. Leo Fender, the creator of the guitar, will be played by Frank Graham, with 16 year-old guitar whizz Rowan Stuart appearing in the role of the young aspiring rock star.

Book at the door or in advance through Computicket, or for credit cards call 031-3042753. Save half of your booking costs and book directly on http://www.computicket.com. More details from Themi Venturas Productions on (031) 201 9242.
