LIVE FOR DURBAN (article first published : 2000-06-3)

Big Concerts in association with 5FM and MTV will present a rock concert of note when the USA band Live tours South Africa this month. Two extra concerts have already been added to the Johannesburg and Cape Town stops.

Formed in the early 80's in their hometown of York, Pennsylvania, Live rose to chart success on the strength of its idealistic spiritual song writing. Live has done what many bands fail to do after nearly 15 years together - survive without losing their relevance and in so doing defining the term "rock band". The band consists of Ed Kowalczyk (vocals), Chad Taylor (guitar), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass) and Chad Gracey (drums). Originally named Public Affection, the band changed its name to Live in 1989 and their debut album Mental Jewelry was released by 1991. Three years later Throwing Copper propelled the band into the rock mainstream and Secret Samadhi with its thoughtful verses and hardcore choruses was released in 1997. Their latest The Distance to Here, also the title of the tour, has already received rave reviews and is considered their most powerful work to date. Visit www.friendsoflive.com

Live will perform in Durban at the ABSA Stadium on June 20. Booking exclusively at Ticketweb. Tickets R105, R170 and R235 (exc. of TicketWeb service charges). Book on www.ticketweb.co.za, 0861 400 500 or 082 232 7800
