LEVIíSģ YOUNG GUNS 2008 (article first published : 2008-08-27)

There are some bands that play really good and distinct music, in addition to having exceptional fun while doing it. These are the musicians that make it onto the Leviísģ Young Guns stage, a stage made possible by Leviís‚ Original Music allowing up and coming artists the chance to play their heart out on stage in a cool venue.

Leviísģ Original Music gives local bands a chance play their music to live audiences and fans on stage in venues throughout South Africa. The Leviísģ Young Guns programme is a highly successful initiative which demonstrates the commitment of Leviís Original Music to all forms of local music. Itís an exciting initiative that gives up and coming bands the opportunity to showcase their talent.

In September there are two groundbreaking acts playing at the Bellhaven Memorial Hall in Durban. Itís time for Siyamatic and Fire Through the Window to step up and impress with their own unique brand straight-from-the-soul tunes Ė fresh music minus the fuss.

First up on the night is Siyabonga Buthelezi, known on stage as the sensational Siyamatic, a young star with a classical background whoís been loving and living music his entire life. This Durban-born son is a self-taught guitarist with a voice reminiscent of all the good things in life. Heís been touching audiences around the country with his unrivalled, uncompromising, indefinably infectious music.

Following on is Fire Through The Window, an outfit whose quirky outlook has seen them enjoying a meteoric rise to fame in the last year. Theyíve got the formula right, balancing dreamy, romantic lyrics and sweet melodies with pop accessibility and ska-infected punk. Their live show is all potent energy and upfront honesty, using two lead singers to get a very catchy message across. Fire Through The Window have been blowing Durban away with their disarmingly perky charm and promise to do the same at Leviísģ Young Guns.

Leviísģ Young Guns take place on September 4 at the Bellhaven Memorial Hall, 217 1st Avenue (just off Stanford Hill Road, Durban. Doors open at 20h00. Entrance R20 - tickets available from Leviísģ stores and at the door.
