SA MUSIC SESSIONS (article first published : 2008-08-19; last edited : [an error occurred while processing this directive])

In support of the local music scene and promoting South African music through performing arts, The Slingshot Group undertakes a significant role in creating a momentous platform for South African musicians, where established artists and upcoming musicians are featured at regular live music events to assist in the development of the Durban music scene.

Slingshot Productions has rendered its strategic and production expertise to numerous events and festivals around Durban for over a decade. Its record of events stretch from organising British American Tobacco’s corporate events or supplying the Mr. Price Pro Music Festival with an exceptional line-up of artists to providing its own brainchild series of music events, “The Nite Out Sessions”, with the essential paraphernalia to make a success out of each of them.

Slingshot Productions have also been significantly involved in the success of the Flux Music Festival and Awesome Africa Music Festivals – two of South Africa’s largest cultural events catering to truly diverse and multiracial audiences.

“With the very same policy and principles in business that we have always maintained over the years,” say the organizers, “Slingshot Productions would like to present a concept of regular live music and DJ events that would be held at a couple of venues that are fast becoming popular with performances in Durban: The Willowvale Hotel on Umbilo Road and The Beach Club near Ushaka Marine World.”

The SA Music Sessions will showcase the abundance of local music that South Africa has to offer; from current radio hits to local retro classics. The idea would be to play only South African music, especially the bands that would be scheduled to perform at future events; so as to familiarise the audiences with the sounds and music of the bands/artists. The local music would be played by the featured DJ(s) at the session throughout the entire event; before, during and after the band sets.

The SA Music Sessions will take place on the last Friday of every second month. They will run from 21h00 till past midnight.

The first session is billed for the August 30 at the Willowvale Hotel with Pocket Change and The City Bowl Mizers being the live acts.
