Good news for jazz lovers is that the Zulu Jazz Lounge at the Playhouse is up and running again with a full-on programme for August.

Formed two years ago around their regular gig at manna (now Market) on Marriot Road just up from the racecourse where they still find perform every Friday lunchtime from 12h30 to 14h30, playing a sassy eclectic mix from a vast repertoire of swing, latin, afro and groove standards and originals in the jazz idiom. Besides the regular Friday lunch session at Market, Beatroute is becoming popular around the Durban social scene and can be found at Society on Florida Road every Friday night from 21h00 to 23h00 followed by swing and salsa dj. They also perform at various fairs, weddings, functions and events, corporate and other.

August 22: Busi Mhlongo. Originally from Inanda in KwaZulu-Natal, Busi Mhlongo is a virtuoso singer, dancer and composer whose music defies categorisation.
