DANNY RAMPLING (article first published : 2008-07-1)

Better known as the “godfather of house music”, Danny Rampling is making his way to South Africa to take to the turntables at the 3-30 party of the year. He will be “in the house” at the Lounge, 226 Stamfordhill Road, on July 5 for the legendary 3-30’s 20th Summer of Love party.

Danny Rampling made his name as a revolutionary dance music pioneer, with his fame and notoriety originating in 1987 when he catalysed the dance/rave explosion with his legendary club Shoom in London. With his growing popularity, he was asked to DJ for the groundbreaking Kiss FM radio station. In accepting he was able to powerfully extend his influence over dance music and the changing attitudes of young London.

This musical perfectionist became the “must have” DJ for celebrity parties, taking to the stage for the likes of George Michael, The Pet Shops Boys, Gloria Estefan and Depeche Mode. During this time he was specially commissioned to provide the catwalk soundtrack for Milan designer Antonio Berardi. This proved to be a glorious success and he carried on in this role for a further five years, becoming the “DJ darling of the fashion world”.

He will join top SA and international DJs Martin McHale, Steve Soco, Dino Moran, Surge and Claudio in a night of unadulterated dance magic.

Doors open at 20h00. Tickets (pre-sale) at R150 from Idols (Musgrave and Pavilion), Silver People (Pinetown), Holmes Bros (Gateway) and The Lounge. Limited tickets will be on sale at the door for R200.
