MELANIE LOWE’S FAREWELL GIG (article first published : 2008-06-25)

Durban’s Melanie Lowe, who has steadily been carving a name for herself in the music industry as a successful singer/song writer and performing artist, will be relocating to Johannesburg at the end of June. But before she goes, her fans will have a chance to see her performing at the Luna Lounge at Tastes of Africa Restaurant in Botha’s Hill on June 27.

The past few years since finishing in the Top 3 of SA’s first Idols, have been an eventful, challenging and also inspiring road. Since an early age, long before Idols, Melanie dreamed of a place in the music industry, writing songs since the age of about 14, learning to play on an old, cheap guitar bought for her as a child for R5 and developing her singing skills since the age of five.

For the Luna Lounge gig, Melanie will perform with some of the backing musicians she has been appeared with over the last year or so, including guitarist and singer/songwriter Rowan Stuart, who will be opening the evening with his own set, featuring songs from his just released album A Thousand Brand New Places, which features the track Late Starte currently playing on East Coast Radio. Melanie will perform songs from her current album Unspoken Truth which was recently nominated for a SAMA (SA Music Award) in the category Best Adult Contemporary Album, English, as well as her first album Yesterday’s Diary, and one or two of her favourite covers. Her performance will have an ‘unplugged’ vibe, which promises to be a real treat for her fans, and a fitting farewell gig, where Melanie will showcase her strikingly different individual musical style, which draws her fans to her music.

The performance takes place at Luna Lounge’s new venue, Tastes of Africa Restaurant, 6 Clement Stott Road, Botha’s Hill, on June 27 at 19h00 for 19h30. For Melanie’s farewell performance at Luna Lounge on, entrance is R70, with children and pensioners paying only R35. Booking is essential. For bookings (and it is likely to be sold out!) contact 072 280 1949 or 083 270 2222. The venue, Tastes of Africa has a full menu, and their website has details as well as a map, www.tastesofafrica.co.za. Melanie’s CD’s will be on sale at the gig.
