KRAMER PETERSEN SONGBOOK (article first published : 2008-05-19)

The smash hit musical The Kramer Petersen Songbook is now available as a double disc CD. Due to popular demand, a live recording of the original cast and band has been made, mixed and mastered by the legendary Tully McCully. The Kramer Petersen Songbook was created by David Kramer as a tribute to his friend and partner of 20 years, the late Taliep Petersen. Produced by Renaye and David Kramer the show celebrates the songs and music written by this Cape Town duo who began working together in 1986 and who, in the 20 years that followed, created a number of hit musicals such as District Six, Fairyland, Poison and the internationally acclaimed Kat and the Kings and Ghoema.

This double disc album features all 38 songs performed by the very talented company of Loukmaan Adams, Alistair Izobell, Mono Dullisear, Carmen Maarman, Tarryn Lamb, Bronwyn Reddy, and veteran performers Terry Hector and Terry Fortune who recently won a Fleur du Cap for his performance in this musical.

This cd presents a unique opportunity to hear the hits and highlights from all the Kramer/Petersen shows. Songs from the musicals Poison and Crooners which have never been available on CD, can now be heard for the first time, as well as the old favourites Welcome To Cape Town, Broertjie My Bra, Klop Klop, So Long Goodbye, Lonely Girl, Queen of Hearts and many others.

Well known Cape Town musician Camillo Lombard is the musical director on this project and he and David have worked very closely together for a number of months to achieve the arrangements that they believe would measure up to the very high standards set by Taliep Petersen. Bassist Howard Links and guitarist Gammie Lakay who knew and played in bands with Taliep since their teens, form part of the band that includes Larnelle Gordon on drums, Cameron Ward on guitar and Donvino Prins on saxophone.

The launch of this album was timed to coincide with the recent return season of The Kramer Petersen Songbook at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town.
