PLAYHOUSE AUDITIONS FOR QUEEN III (article first published : 2008-05-18)

The Playhouse Company is to produce a spectacular new production entitled Queen III, based on Queen’s mega hits and this will run over the Festive Season in The Playhouse Opera, from mid November 2008 until the end of the year. The production will be staged with live backing from the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Playhouse Company will hold auditions in Durban on May 24 and 25, 2008, for musicians, singers and dancers to perform in the production. The Playhouse is looking for fresh new talent with a strong degree of performance potential and artists should be of a high level of proficiency in order to qualify for consideration.

Roles or positions to be filled include: Lead Guitar, Bass Guitar, Rhythm Guitar and Keyboards; a young female solo singer with operatic training; male (and possibly female) lead vocalists; backing singers, both male and female; and six multi-skilled, professional, charismatic, versatile show dance couples with experience in classical ballet, contemporary dance or funk. Male dancers must be strong for partner work.

Singers with experience in opera, cabaret or live vocal performance will be considered. They can perform anything from the Queen repertoire at their vocal audition. Female singers with experience in opera should prepare either The Fallen Priest or Barcelona or any dramatic aria of their choice.

Musicians who apply for auditions must be able to read music. Singers must supply their own music and backing tracks.

All aspirant performers and musicians who wish to audition for the production should contact The Playhouse Company’s Music Co-Ordinator, Thembisile ‘Cry’ Ndlovu, on 031 369 9463 by no later than May 15 in order to make an appointment.
