On April 8, Friends of Music will present exquisitely beautiful Baroque and Renaissance music performed on period instruments - in particular, a uniquely restored 300 year-old five-string piccolo cello.

The concert will feature Andrew Cruickshank (Harpsichord & Piano); Hans Huyssen (Baroque cello), and Piet van Rooyen (Baroque cello, Continuo). Their programme will include Bach’s Sonata in G major (BWV 1027); Cruickshank’s Kwela of Rhythm (for solo piano); Boismortier’s Sonata in G-major for cello and b.c (op. 20 no 2), and Vivaldi’s Sonata in E-minor for cello and b.c. (RV 40). Also to be performed will be Huyssen’s Ughubhu (for solo cello) and Bach’s Sonata in D-major (BWV 1027).

Prelude Performer will be Michael Loubser (recorder) accompanied by Bobby Mills. He will perform the first movement of G Samartini’s Concerto in F Major; G.P. Telemann’s Sonata no. 3 in F Minor – Triste and York Bowen’s Sonatina op.121 for Recorder and Piano.

The concert will take place on April 8 at 19h45 at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 Old Fort Road. Ticket prices R70 (R60 FOM members and R20 students/orchestra members) booked at Computicket There is safe parking.
