EDGARS MUSIC SERIES (article first published : 2008-03-24)

Over the past four years, The Edgars Music Series (EMS) has grown into one of the most sought-after live youth culture events in Johannesburg. Taking place at the Bassline in Newtown every first Friday of the month, the EMS has become a highly credible music brand with every record company exec trying to showcase their upcoming ‘greats’ on this stage each month.

Due to the success of the Edgars Music Series through its development platform for the South African music industry, Edgars has decided to extend the event to other cities of the country, also giving them this fantastic opportunity to develop emerging artists and to showcase established acts.

This month, the Edgars Music Series officially launches their national tour, commencing with the first series in Durban on March 28. The show will also touch down in Polokwane, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein and Cape Town in the coming months.

“Bringing the Edgars Music Series to Durban to further promote the growth of the live music culture offers a great opportunity for all music lovers, and performers alike,” says Edgars Marketing Manager Sudesh Bhageloo. ”We hope this platform will act as a launch pad for many upcoming artists, as it has successfully done at the Bassline in Johannesburg over the years.”

In addition to the great live music line-up, the ‘Fashion Police’ offer a fashion element to fabulously dressed enthusiasts. They scout around the venue during the event, searching for people who are looking über-trendy and fly, and give them fabulous prizes (from Edgars vouchers, Cell phones, latest fragrances and cosmetics). The dance-off competition launched in Johannesburg this month, offers an interactive crowd element.

A live interactive dance-off battle will be held for all dancers and choreographers, who want to win Edgars hampers and instant VIP access passes. Any type of dance is welcome and the audience help select the winner with their cheers and applause. A nice bonus to those who have some dance skills.

The Edgars Music Series takes place on March 28 at 21h00 at the BAT Centre. The line-up includes HHP, Zola, Bongi Dube, Zuka and Zulu Dawn and features Durban’s Finest; DJ Bongs and DJ Twitty.
