MARITZBURG MUSICIANS CLUB (article first published : 2008-03-6)

Roger O’Neill of the Maritzburg Musicians Club sends news of forthcoming events to be held at the Red Door in Pietermaritzburg:

Performing on March 11 is a Blue Grass treat with a well-known local band, The Bandits, comprising a group of keen Bluegrass followers who have all been inspired by various Bluegrass artists. The band was founded in May 2001. In the early eighties, Bryan Eaton played in a country band in Zimbabwe called The Bandits and they decided to call the new band by the same name. The Bandits play Genuine American Bluegrass, with some Irish fiddle and a country song or two thrown in for good measure. The Bandits will be supported by Robynne - a vocalist who will perform with a new group including Ashley Milanese - a reportedly brilliant blues guitarist and Frik Enslin with possibly St John on keyboards and Robbie Marais on drums as the support act.

The Maritzburg Musicians Club will support a Splashy Fen Artist on March 25 and further events include The Hairy Legged Lentil Eaters on April 8; Ilan Lax on April 22; Ant Jenkins in a Simon and Garfunkel evening on May 6 and a Jazz Evening on May 20.

The Red Door is situated at 5 Quarry Road, off Victoria Road in Pietermaritzburg and the music starts at 20h30.

The Maritzburg Musicians Club encourages musicians to come forward as support acts to showcase their works. Contact Roger O'Neill at musicpmb@gmail.com
