MULTIPLE MARIMBAS (article first published : 2008-02-20)

The University of KwaZulu-Natal School of Music in association with the SAMRO Endowment for the National Arts and the Distell Foundation for the Performing Arts presents Multiple Marimbas.

The concert combines the warm and vibrant sound of four marimbas in a collaboration between four exceptionally talented performers: Ilse Minnie and Bryan Clarke, both percussionists with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, music teacher Charlene May, and Magda de Vries who teaches music at Pretoria University and freelances for various music ensembles including the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of South Africa.

They will be presenting a variety of works including pieces by South African composers; Peter Klatzow's Song for Stephanie, Fiona Tozer's Multiple Exposure (premiere), and a selection of pieces by David Houghton.

The concert takes place on March 5 at Howard College Theatre at 19h30. Entrance is R50 (R20 concessions). Bookings on 031 260 3353 or marid1@ukzn.ac.za
