PLUSH (article first published : 2008-01-30)

Destiny is the very spirit of the album, and destiny is where the compelling journey now seems sure to take the Plush trio, lead guitarist and singer Rory Eliot, bassist Emelio Gassibe and drummer Ben Peters. The road has been anything but easy, but the release of their comeback album to widespread acclaim, sold-out shows and growing international interest indicates that their time is now.

Plush, comprising Chas Smit and Rory Eliot, first featured in 2003 with songs such as Tainted, Today and My Baby were well known for their masterful live gigs and incredible musicianship, as well as a message that was simple, heartfelt and uplifting. Their initial success ended tragically when Smit was killed crossing a street in Pietermaritzburg in September 2005. Rory took a six-month sabbatical before returning as a solo artist and Rory Eliot & The Reason was formed. The group released their first song early in 2007, When Grace Grew Tall, which shot to No. 1 on 5fm's Hi5@5.

Plush enjoyed a highly successful tour of the UK in August 2007 where they played nine shows in ten days to sold-out venues in London. Interest in the band has been enormous and a follow-up tour to the UK, Europe and Australia has been planned for later this year. With countrywide launches of the new album, including a sold-out Summer Series gig at Kirstenbosch Gardens that drew 5,000 people, Plush is billed as the band to watch in 2008.

A combination of emotion, passion and determination has fuelled Plush's musical rebirth. The same combination has also meant it's always been more than just songs. For many, it is the soundtrack to their lives.

Plush’s third and latest album, Rage On will be launched at Hilton College Theatre on February 2 at 19h00. Tickets R50 booked on 033 383 0126 or email tickets@hiltoncollege.com

The new album as well as new Plush T-shirts and mementos will be on sale.
