SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER AUDITIONS (article first published : 2007-11-17)

Jacaranda 94.2, Big Concerts & NGM in association with Richard Loring will present Saturday Night Fever from April 8, 2008, at the splendid new Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City in Johannesburg. The show is based on the record-breaking box office movie featuring music by The Bee Gees.

The story is based on the defining 1977 film Saturday Night Fever, which starred John Travolta as Tony Manero, a troubled Brooklyn youth whose weekend activities are dominated by visits to a local discotheque. While in the disco, Tony is the king and the visits help him temporarily to forget the reality of his life: a dead-end job, clashes with his unsupportive and squabbling parents, racial tensions in the local community, and his associations with a gang of dead-beat friends.

Saturday Night Fever is the classic story of hope over tragedy. The electric combination of music and dance fused with a memorable soundtrack is combined with some of musical theatre’s most groundbreaking choreography. The music of Saturday Night Fever was the most important milestone in the history of the Bee Gees threesome.

The spectacular set with dramatic backdrops of New York and the Manhattan skyline will be shipped in from London, complete with the iconic lit dance floor and mirror ball. The show will include 30 of South Africa’s hottest young performers.

Ticket sales open on November 19 priced from R90 (midweek) and R125 (weekends) excluding booking fees, and are available from Gold Reef City on 011 248 5168, boxoffice@grcc.co.za or Computicket.

Cast auditions for Saturday Night Fever will take place on November 19 in Johannesburg. Dancers and singers wishing to book for the audition should contact Neville on 011-248-8936.
