VIVA LAS VEGAS (article first published : 2007-11-9)

Acclaimed entertainer/impresario Jayson King returns to the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre for the 10th year since 1995 in his new production Viva Las Vegas.

Now 62 years of age, Jayson King has performed all around South Africa over the past 15 years with his production of The Great Pretenders, one of the most notable musical tribute shows of the 21st century. He is well-known to television viewers who saw him appear several times on programmes such as Noot vir Noot, Felecia on E-Tv, Tony Sanderson’s Chuckle ‘n Chat Show, Dali Tambo’s People of the South and too many radio interviews to remember.

In “Viva Las Vegas, he will be accompanied by Carol-Leigh, once a supporting act to superstars Simply Red, Dionne Warwick, Bon Jovi and many other international singers who visited South Africa. Described as “the powerhouse of female singers around South Africa”, she belts out the exact voice stylings as Tina Turner, Celine Dion, Gloria Gaynor, Anastacia, all whom have graced the stages in Las Vegas over the years. Another supporting act is Donald Behm who is sure to be a crowd favourite with what promises to be an exciting tribute to Tom Jones.

Tasmia, 3rd runner-up in Patricia Lewis’ Supersterre competition will bring to life the sounds of Whitney Houston, Diana Ross and Donna Summer. A popular singing heartthrob for three decades, Solly Junior sings numbers made famous by Engelbert Humperdink. Rod Gilbert joins the cast with his true to life tribute to Frank Sinatra while Fatima Nery does justice to the expression and sound of Jennifer Lopez, Shakira and Natalie Cole.

Jayson King was acclaimed “Mr Showbiz” by the Star newspaper during 2003 while appearing at the Gold Reef City casino for a seven month season. Prior to that, he performed at Richard Loring’s Soundstage in Midrand for ten months. He sings in French, Italian, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Zulu and Hindi and pays tribute to artists like Julio Iglesias, Elvis Presley (movements ‘n all), Frankie Laine, Engelbert Humperdink, Louis Armstrong, Andrea Bocelli, Louis Prima to mention just a few. This man is versatile and a great humourist.

Viva Las Vegas, produced and directed by Jason King, runs at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre for a short season from November 15 to 18. Tickets R80 for evening shows (R70 for matinees on November 17 and 18). Booking at Computicket is now open with reduced ticket prices available for block bookings of 50 or more.
