SASOL FEVER AUDITIONS (article first published : 2007-09-4)

Auditions will be held on September 9 for the musical Sasol Fever which comes to the Catalina Theatre in Wilson’s Wharf from October 23 until November 18.

In the bad old days when the then-government sought to solve its petrol problems by the creation of the Sasol plant in Secunda, many of the best boiler makers, welders, fitters and turners, were “bruin ou’s” from Durban. The exodus of qualified men from the Coloured community of Durban commuting to the Sasol construction site made for some hilarious, and heart-wrenching, stories. This musical penned by Gail Snyman tells this fascinating tale.

Gail Snyman is looking for four men and four women performers aged between 22 and 35 who must be able to sing, dance and act. As the story is about a social dynamic particular to the Durban Coloured community, it is preferable – but not essential – that performers are (or look) Coloured.

Audition candidates should prepare a short sketch / monologue / theatre piece to display their acting talent and should also prepare a song. If they need backing tracks to perform, they should bring those along with them. They should wear comfortable clothes and takkies / dance shoes to perform in.

They should bring with them their CV including full contact information, and attach a photograph

Auditions take place from 10h00 onwards at the Catalina Theatre on September 9. For more information or to book your slot, contact Thandeka from the Catalina Theatre on 031 305 6889.
