KZN YOUTH ORCHESTRA AT LE DOMAINE (article first published : 2007-07-23)

The KZN Youth Orchestra will perform their impressive repertoire under the Hillcrest skies when they take to the stage at the Le Domaine Amphitheatre on July 29.

Conductor Ian Holloway, who is also principal clarinettist for the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, promises that the performance will include a selection of songs for everyone.

“We wanted to make this particular performance a fun, entertaining celebration of the orchestra’s talents, and are currently practising a wonderful array of musical items guaranteed to suit a diverse range of tastes,” said Ian Holloway.

The KZNYO was formed in 1994 by Candace Whitehead and Derrick Fockens who both directed and conducted the orchestra. Its primary objective is to provide a medium for the cultural and educational development of young musicians. Ian Holloway is currently conducting for the group while KZNYO Musical Director Lykele Temmingh conducts The Lion King at Montecasino in Johannesburg.

Music lovers attending the KZYNO’s Le Domaine performance can expect a beautiful selection of melodies, ranging from a take on the much-loved The Lion Sleeps Tonight, a catchy medley of Beatles songs, Jazz Pizzicato by American composer Leroy Anderson and – an undoubted highlight - a selection of songs from the famous Harry Potter movies.

The performance on July 29 at 14h00 is by courtesy of Kloof Round Table and Le Domaine. All proceeds will benefit Kloof Round Table. Tickets R50 available from Eden Wildly on 076 631 2314 or edenjw@telkomsa.net
