ZULU JAZZ LOUNGE (article first published : 2007-07-12)

This week at the Zulu Jazz Lounge will see local muso Vusi Mkhize returning to the venue, followed by a visit from Sharon Katz of Peace Train fame.

July 12, Burton Naidoo Jazz Project with Natalie Rungan, Philani Ngidi, Bruce Baker and Sean Duval. Cover Charge R30 from 20h00.

July 13: Having been in Johannesburg since 2003, playing alongside the likes of Gloria Bosman, Deborah Fraser and Afro Tenors, Vusi Mkhize has decided to spend a lot more time in Durban, and concentrate on his new CD, which will be released before the end of the year. Don't miss this chance to hear some new originals, plus old favourites. Cover charge R40 from 20h00.

July 14: Sweet Concept featuring Siyanda Zulu (trumpet), Thabane Gapara (sax), Siyanqoba Mthethwa (piano), Bheka Mthethwa (bass) and Sbu Zondi (drums), playing their programme of jazz standards. Cover charge R30 from 20h00.

July 19: Bejazzled are all former UKZN students, including Sebenzile Kuzwayo on vocals, Mbuso Sokhela on bass, Lee Khumalo on drums and Mlu Mhlongo on piano. Cover charge R30 from 20h00.

July 20: Sharon Katz featuring local girls Nonhlanhla Wanda and Shophi. Cover charge R40 from 20h00.

July 21: EYAM including the talented Sbusiso Mashiwane on piano, Langelihle Ncalane on bass, Brendon Clutte on drums, Busisiwe Mbatha and Thulile Shozi on vocals. Cover charge R30 from 20h00.

A decision has been taken by the owners and management of the Piatto restaurant at the Playhouse, to transfer the serving of a-la-carte meals from the Piatto Restaurant to the Zulu Jazz Lounge. The first floor venue will now be available for functions, conferences and group bookings. The change-over will take place on July 16. Bookings and enquiries to Neville at Piatto Events on 084 549 7868. In the absence of special functions the Piatto Bar will continue trading from 17h00 to 23h00 on most evenings.
