MAGICAL MUSIC MAP (article first published : 2007-07-4)

Here's something which should interest all musicians and anyone vaguely related to the industry. A retired textile engineer, Dutch-born Wim Mutsaerts, has launched Mutsaerts' Music Map, an initiative he believes "will link music people with music public".

"Not all of us are well versed in music" he says. "Few of us play any instrument, let alone read music. But I love to attend and listen to good music concerts, the classics, contemporaries, jazz, and the like. And I know many others who do, too. But where to find weekly information on music events? I think the music events information is too scattered all over newspaper pages and my mission is to gain support from as many music-connected people as possible, to link up under one heading in the newspaper. A music map, so to speak"

So he launched MMM in The Independent on Saturday. He presented a three-column, later on a five-column advertisement, every Saturday. Maybe he will even go national. For the past few weeks he's been hunting down the addresses of anyone and everyone connected with music in Durban. But he needs your urgent support now in order to continue his stimulating initiative.

If you have any gigs or are related in any small way to the music industry, give Wim a call and let him put you on the map - the Mutsaerts's Music Map - as it were. And each week, for a nominal price, you'll be listed on the map, whether you have a music venue or lounge, a music shop, whether you're a musician, an instrument restorer or tuner, a tutor, a distributor or even if you sell audio systems and musical instruments and equipment.

Needless to say if you have a music event coming up, call Wim at 031 325 9828 or e-mail him at mutsaerts@musicmap.org.za
