THE ZULU JAZZ LOUNGE (article first published : 2007-06-24)

The Zulu Jazz Lounge has announced a strong line-up of artists to take music-lovers through the build up to the Durban July.

On June 27, UKZN musos Siyanquba embrace the ZJL stage for the very first time. This five-piece ensemble is full of youthful enthusiasm and display an unbridled passion for their craft. Entrance R20.

June 28 reunites Philani Ngidi and Natalie Rungan. Philani and his six-string bass guitar return to the stage that has forever cemented his reputation in Durban as the consummate master of entertainment. He performs with vocalist Natalie Rungan, a combination that began by backing Ronny Jordan in October 2006 and one that has continued to entertain the ZJL faithful regularly over the months. (It is also rumoured that Philani will be a judge at the Margate Idols auditions) Entrance R20.

Look out, South Africa! June 29 sees Mr Chacklas return to the limelight on the ZJL stage. A member of the group Stax and then the Casino in the early 80ís, he released a hit song titled Chacklas-Chacklas. He will have ample support at ZJL as he is being backed by Bongani Nkwanyana and JIKA (of Sipho Gumede fame). Entrance R30.

June 30 brings the Durban born pianist Bonani Mambi onto the Zulu platform. Bonani is currently based in Johannesburg and it is always a pleasure to see him back at ZJL. Entrance R20.

The Zulu Jazz Lounge has people taking notice around the country and is going from strength to strength as Durban's premier jazz venue. A menu of Contemporary African Cuisine has been launched to enhance the Live Music Experience, and a live broadcast quality camera feed through to the various plasma screen TV's keep people "up close and personal" wherever they may be enjoying the vibe.
