UB40 FOR DURBAN (article first published : 2007-06-20)

94.7 Highveld Stereo, 94.5 Kfm, East Coast Radio and BIG Concerts will host legendary Reggae ambassadors UB40, on their highly anticipated South African tour. The award winning group kick off their South African tour in Durban on July 4 before heading to Johannesburg on July 6 and down to Cape Town for shows on July 9 and 10.

UB40 have sold over 50 million albums world-wide, released 23 albums, had 53 chart singles, performed alongside U2, Pink Floyd, Coldplay, Madonna, Robbie Williams and The Who, collaborated with top Jamaican Dancehall artists, and played to millions of fans around the globe during their 25-year illustrious career. Their seasoned reggae music has continued to popularise reggae around the globe, with a fan-base too vast to be defined by age, generation, or culture.

These qualities perfectly describe The Rudimentals who have been chosen to support UB40 on their tour. The Rudimentals thrive on the fact that they defy musical genre categorization and are proud to carry the “unique” label. Their music is a blend of Pan African Ska, dance-hall rap, dope reggae rhythm, and vintage 70’s Ska, with a hint of Jazz and the Blues, and has spent a considerable amount of time at the top of the SA MP3 charts, as well as extensive radio play on both regional and national radio. Highlighting their diversity was their recent performance alongside jazz legends, Randy Crawford and Joe Sample, at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival.

The concert on July 4 takes place at ICC Durban. Tickets available from Computicket at all outlets countrywide, on 083 915 8000 or at www.computicket.com
