DAVE GOLDBLUM (article first published : 2007-06-18)

Eastern Cape based singer songwriter and acoustic guitarist Dave Goldblum is to tour KwaZulu-Natal shortly, returning to playing at venues in the province after an absence of almost five years.

Many acoustic music listeners from previous years will be familiar with his music, especially those who follow the Splashy Fen line-up and are Syd Kitchen, Tony Cox and/or Steve Newman fans. Dave has also supported and hosted Syd Kitchen, Nibs van der Spuy and Guy Buttery in the Eastern Cape for many years. For people who are not familiar with his brand of acoustics songs and music, an extract from his biography reads as follows:

“Dave has played extensively both locally and abroad in his 25 year career as musician, and recorded five albums of his own, with a variety of South African and international artists. His music can be described as a fusion of jazz, folk and African, infused with a lyrical song style and intricate guitar work – all original, distinct and a truly South African experience.”

At a recent joint concert in early 2007, rock and folk master Shawn Phillips described Dave as ‘one of the best singer-songwriters in South Africa’. Dave is currently planning a tour of Australia and Canada in the near future.
