NEON ANTHEMS (article first published : 2007-06-3)

The multi award winning duo, Jacobus van Heerden and Liam Magner, are back with their third instalment in the Neon Anthems trilogy which comes to the Catalina Theatre from June 6.

In keeping with their commitment to fresh, original material, the show is packed from beginning to end with hilarious songs, skits and grievous male charm. Pushing the boundaries of any style they are prepared to get their teeth into, this year introduces a third member to the duo in the form Victor Samsinov – master of the violin and jack of all musical trades. Along with this addition, special guests are up the proverbial sleeve, ready to add fantastic flavour to your evening’s entertainment.

The third show has no plot that they need to follow. “Not having a plot gives us license not to have to obey any story line,” says Jacobus van Heerden. “The skits and music are easy to listen to. But this is contradicted by the witty lyrics which sometimes escape a fine line of promiscuity and acceptability!”

Music is easy listening – all the songs come straight from the heart.

Coinciding with the show, the ‘Monty Python with a Durban feel’ comedians will be launching the Neon Anthem’s first official album that will be for sale to the public. They have been working on the album for six years in between their busy performing schedules. The CD mostly comprises songs with linking skits. Jacobus van Heerden boasts that the tracks are unique and very original. An added bonus is a music video and DVD on the disk for people to enjoy.

Catch the zany trio on stage at the Catalina Theatre from June 6 to 24 from Tuesdays until Saturdays at 20h00 (Sundays at 18h00). Tickets R60 (R30 students and pensioners) booked through Thandeka on 031 305 6889 and available online at www.strictlytickets.co.za, www.catalinatheatre.co.za or at www.goingplaces.co.za

There is an age restriction of PG13.
