KERIMOV TRIO AT UKZN (article first published : 2007-05-7)

The acclaimed South African ensemble, The Kerimov Trio comprising Christopher Duigan (piano) with Elena and Boris Kerimov (violin and cello), makes a rare Durban appearance at the Howard College Theatre, UKZN Berea Campus on May 8.

With engagements this year including the Johannesburg Musical Society and Franschhoek Classical Music Festival, the trio has steadily gained greater recognition from audiences nationally since their formation in 2002.

Their programme of classical delights will include the popular Slavic inspired Dumky Trio by Antonin Dvorak, Six Canonic Pieces by Robert Schumann arranged for trio in 1991 by Theodore Kirchner and two of the Porteno Seasons by South American tango artist Astor Piazolla. The seldom-performed Trio No 1 in F by Camille Saint-Saens, inspired by a holiday visit to the Pyrenees, completes the programme.

The concert takes place at 19h30 on May 8. Tickets R60 are available from Music Revival on 083 417 4473, booking@musicrevival.co.za or at the door.
