THE MAGNIFICENT 7 (article first published : 2007-03-24)

Durban audiences are set to shake, rattle and roll with the mega hit show The Magnificent 7 - coming to the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from March 28 to April 22. Expect a whole of fun as comedy entertainer Aaron McIlroy will be on the star roster.

Top production companies, Port Elizabeth-based Centrestage and Aaron McIlroy’s Durban-based MacBob Productions, present a high octane collaboration with The Magnificent 7 which is a tribute to the seven greatest bands of all time. Music and comedy are set to collide as The Magnificent 7, representing the greatest bands of all time (namely The Beach Boys, Beatles, Bee Gees, Rolling Stones, Abba, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Queen), all come together for an evening of belly-laughs and supreme musicianship.

Aaron McIroy rides the tide of mirth in the guise of an alien social anthropologist and philosopher who keeps the audience misinformed at all times. The music of the seven bands is recreated with painstaking precision by the ace nine-piece Centrestage All-Star Band (CASB). Described by McIlroy as one of the best bands he has ever seen, CASB delivers an authentic and high-energy interpretation of each of the individual performance styles of the divergent bands. Aaron has specially created a whole new barrel of laughs for the show in which he becomes part of the less than scientific process.
