BURNING THE ROOF (article first published : 2007-03-18)

Burning the Roof, the first gig on the wonderful roof of Burn nightclub, happens on March 21 when Habit To, Gonzo Republic and Clock-Struck June will display their sophisticated, acoustic side as a soundtrack to this glorious view of the city of Durban.

Winners of the Burn Battle of the Bands, Habit To offer something intelligent and sophisticated, yet undeniably accessible. With strong jazz and classical backgrounds, Habit To's blend of hard rock is a powerfully dynamic and eclectic mix of styles, brought together with integrated melodies and often awkward time signatures.

Founding members of Clock-Struck June, Nico and Ryan, began sharing music in the autumn of 2006. They shared the vision of creating music that was acceptable to the mass public yet delivered with new style. With the addition of violin, the group continues to be progressive and displays that well with their 2007 EP, It's Time.

The Gonzo Republic is a four piece alternate rock outfit that includes ex members of Perez and Scooter's Union.

The success of this gig will open the door to many more bands being involved on a monthly basis.

Doors open at 17h00 with the first band begins at 17h30 and the event runs until 20h00. Entrance R20 before 17h30 (R30 thereafter). Entrance to Burning the Roof includes entrance to Burn for the whole night. “If angels decide to start spitting on us”, say the organisers, “the gig will move indoors”.
