GUITARS UNDER STARS (article first published : 2007-03-4)

Guy Buttery and Nibs van der Spuy, two of South Africa's finest acoustic guitarists, will perform at Durban’s Glenwood High School in Guitars Under Stars.

Both Nibs and Guy are soloists in their own rights and both have released critically acclaimed albums. With each subsequent performance they create a unified magic which flows into uncharted waters. Guy and Nibs will perform more solo tunes from their various albums as well as new material and some of their duo favourites.

Guy was discovered and signed to the SHEER label while still in his teens, becoming the youngest nominee for best newcomer at the 2002 SAMA awards for his brilliant debut When I Grow Up. His follow up, Songs From The Canefields released in 2004 has yet again received praises for its virtuosic fretboard originality, locally and by reputable publications in Europe and the US. Guy will concentrate on performing abroad this year after a short tour to Australia in February.

Nibs has just re-released his third album, Beautiful Feet to huge acclaim and was exceptionally well received in London during a series of solo performances. In November 2006 he enjoyed a highly successful short tour of Australia where Beautiful Feet received 5 star crit in the Sydney Herald. The same has applied in the UK where recently he received high praises in the London Guardian and the Birmingham Post. CD's will be on sale at all of the performances!

If you haven't yet caught this duo in action, now‘s your chance. Make sure you diarise March 18 at 18h00 (to picnic) for 19h00 (for concert). Tickets R40 (R20 scholars) available from Shelley on 083 375 4400 Bring picnic baskets and blankets. Drinks will be available for sale at the concert.
