REWARDING CONTRASTS (article first published : 2007-02-18)

The next concert in the KZN Philharmonic Orchestraís Summer Season World Symphony Series will take place at the Durban City Hall on February 22 at 19h30.

Marked as a turning point in his career, Barberís Violin Concerto offers contrasting movements that flow from pure lyricism to a far more hard-edged finale. Violinist Netta Hadari, under the baton of his father Omri Hadari, performs this virtuosic piece.

The programme concludes with a work that reveals Dvorakís depth of feeling and technical mastery. Composed in the shadow of the death of his beloved mother, the richly satisfying Seventh Symphony stands apart from the rest of his work as a stark reminder of the darkness that sometimes borders even the happiest existence.

Also on the programme is the Rossiniís Semiramide Overture. Friends of Music will offer a pre-concert lecture in the Royal Hotel at18h00. Book at Computicket for both events.
