BUTTERY & VAN DER SPUY (article first published : 2007-01-9)

Two of South Africa's finest acoustic guitarists, Guy Buttery and Nibs van der Spuy are returning to Kwa-Zulu Natal for a series of their much requested performances. If you haven't caught this duo in action, make sure you diarise these dates and catch them at the following venues:

On January 13 at 20h00, they will perform at Munch at the Ovongo Square at Foster Road, Uvongo. Tickets R40 booked through 039 315 5956.

January 19 sees the duo at the Elephant and I at the Boardwalk Shopping Centre in Richards Bay with a performance that starts at 19h30. Tickets R50 booked through 035 789 7269.

On January 20 at 18h30, they will appear at the Lunar Lounge next to the Pot & Kettle at 168 Old Main Road in Botha's Hill. Tickets R40 booked through 072 280 1949.

Both Guy Buttery and Nibs van der Spuy are great soloists in their own rights and have both released critically acclaimed albums. With each subsequent performance they create a unified magic which flows into uncharted waters. Guy and Nibs will perform more solo tunes from their various albums as well as new material and some of their duo favourites.

Guy was discovered and signed to the SHEER label while still in his teens, becoming the youngest nominee for best newcomer at the 2002 SAMA awards for his brilliant debut When I Grow Up. His follow up Songs From The Canefields released in 2004 has yet again received praises for its virtuosic fretboard originality, locally and by reputable publications in Europe and the US. Guy will be concentrating on performing abroad this year commencing with a short tour to Australia in early February.

Nibs has just re-released his third album, Beautiful Feet to great acclaim and will head off to the UK at the end of January for a series of solo performances. He has just returned from a highly successful short tour of Australia where Beautiful Feet received five star crit in the Sydney Herald. The same has applied in the UK where recently he received high praises in the London Guardian and the Birmingham Post.

CD's will be on sale at all of the performances.
