MIXED BAG (article first published : 2006-12-26)

Take an opportunity to enjoy a fun and entertaining evening out over the holiday season. The format for Music Revivalís popular Mixed Bag performances over the New Year have been finalised. These include a 'flexi-show' which will vary from performance to performance with each concert in keeping with the festive spirit!

Bring Out The Stars features Christopher Duigan at the piano as he welcomes guest artist Joanne Rozario on alto sax and clarinet in a fun and easy-going selection. This includes original music by John Barry from the Out of Africa soundtrack, Piazzolla's rhythmically charged Libertango, the jumping Yackety Sax as used in the Benny Hill Show, Faure's Pavane, Three Pieces in popular styles by Richard Rodney Bennett - composer of music for many popular films including Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Also on the programme will be classic pops by Elton John - Your Song, Can You Feel the Love Tonight - reworked in various styles, plus music by Gershwin - Someone to Watch Over Me, Summertime - and dazzling and richly romantic solo classics by Chopin and Liszt.

Concerts take place on December 30 and 31 and again on January 5 at 19h30. On December 30 only guests are invited to stay on for a light cafe meal after the concert at an additional R60 pp.

Celebrate 2007 with C'est Magnifique, a special and once-off performance with Federico Freschi, Joanne Rozario and Christopher Duigan celebrating the new year with music for voice, sax and piano. After a successful outing at the Christmas Spectacular and performances in the Cape Winelands, this dynamic combination join up for a winning compilation of songs by Cole Porter and George Gershwin, contemporary classics You Raise me up and Se from Cinema Paradiso, classic Italian songs and numbers form the grand musicals including Tonight, I Talk to the Trees and more. C'est Magnifique takes place on January 3 at 19h30 at 35 Montgomery Drive, Athlone in Pietermaritzburg.

The concerts will take place at 35 Montgomery Drive, Athlone in Pietermaritzburg. Tickets R70 Include a glass of wine on arrival. Guests are welcome to bring their own additional wine and the venue opens at 19h00. Booking is essential through Music Revival on 033 342 3051 or e-mail: chris@musicrevival.co.za

The Mixed Bag 2007 will feature pianist Christopher Duigan in his annual concert in his home studio over the new year's holiday. This exciting gathering of music to while away the long summer holiday evenings always takes on an unusual format and has become something of a talking point. The concert takes place on January 14 at 15h30.
