GLORIA BOSMAN (article first published : 2006-11-29)

Following the sold-out and hugely successful performance by Judith Sephuma at the inaugural Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom’s jazz club event in September, the casino is hosting singing sensation Gloria Bosman on December 3.

Gloria Bosman, was born in Mofolo but was raised in Pimville, Soweto. At no time did she consider that life would take her on a journey that would include working as a professional performer. In much the same way as most of her American contemporaries, she began her career singing in a church choir.

Her first taste of the professional world came after she was approached by Felicia Marion of Joy fame to fill in for one of the singers in a production called SA Love at the Market Theatre in 1993. After this production, she was awarded a scholarship by both Nedbank and the Permanent Bank, which enabled her to study opera at the Technikon Pretoria.

From these early beginnings Gloria has amassed an impressive biography having performed and sung with the cream of South African musicians. Her stage career includes performances on various acts such as: SA Love, a musical of South African love songs produced by Christo Leach, Jubilation a gospel-based musical directed by Ivor Jones, Woman in Spirit, and The Lion and the Lamb, the award winning play by actor director John Kani.

Gloria will be supported by the six-piece K-CAP Band that has toured extensively internationally with the award-winning KwaMashu-based theatre company K-Cap. The band wowed the audience at Sibaya’s Judith Sephuma event.

Corporate tables are available for purchase at R3000 per table of 12 which includes the show ticket, a buffet meal and one bottle of Johnnie Walker per table of 12. A limited number of single tickets are also available at R250.

Early booking is advised through Sibaya Box-Office on 031 580 5555.
