THIRTY THREE FOR VESTIGE (article first published : 2006-11-23)

Durban has a proud history of rock music and has given rise to many of the country’s top rock acts including Tree63, Perez, Squeal & Thirty-Three!

Thirty-Three comprises Rob Warren (guitars and vocals), Garth Warren (bass and backing vocals) and Gary Parker (drums and backing vocals) - a culmination of years of solo and session work; influenced by the likes of U2, The Chilli Peppers, Foo Fighters, The Police & Sublime.

But why the name “Thirty-Three?” No, it’s not that they all have 11 toes as has been rumoured…it’s from the number of the flat they lived in when the band was formed.

Shortly after having been formed, the trio entered a local Battle of the Bands competition and went on to the semi-finals along with top Durban acts. The gigs kept rolling in and it wasn’t long until the band began recording their debut album, Tragically Forgotten. The album was showcased as ‘album of the week’ on 5FM and received significant airplay on community and campus radio stations around the country.

Their current album ‘ am the Hi-Fi has been received well by critics & fans alike. The first single Walk Out In The Sun shot to number one on Durban’s Home Of The Hits’ East Coast Radio and the new single No One Like You is set to burn up the airwaves. Thirty-Three have also signed a distribution deal with American company, Sarepta Music, based in Kloof, Durban.

The trio shines brightest when performing live and entertaining a crowd. Their live act is energetic, spontaneous and each performance is unique. South Africa’s top bands.

Thirty-Three continue to elevate the level of their music and performance to international standards and plan to break into the international music arena. This year the band will be on the road selling their performance and their music from their new release I am the Hi-Fi from door to door. A tour to Europe is also in the pipeline for later this year.

Thirty-Three’s Nite Out Sessions is set to be rocking. Their Session will start at 20h00 on November 30.
