QUARK AND MLUNGISI GEGANA (article first published : 2006-07-29)

On August 1, the Durban Folk Club are back in action featuring a collaboration between local musicians, singer-songwriter and guitarist Fiona Tozer (and her band Quark) and violinist Anton Cawthorn-Blazeby (and his band Celtis). Other musicians featured include Logan Byrne (double bass), Keri Povall (flute, vocals) and Ron Uken (guitar, bodhran).

On August 2, Johannesburg bassist, composer, arranger, Mlungisi Gegana's smooth sounds will take jazz lovers "one step forward" as they listen to his contemporary jazz style, fusing African and Latin elements with mainstream sound. Amongst others, he has played with Steve Dyer, McCoy Mrubata and Jonas Gwanga. Together with Khaya Mahlangu, he played in a resident band for the tv jazz series, Bedazzled. Joining him for his Durban gig are Valentia Ferlito (piano), Paki Poloeole (drums) & special guest Maya Spector (vocals)

Both sessions run from 17h30 to 19h30. More information on 031 260 3385.
