BRONWEN FORBAY (article first published : 2006-07-21)

Durban born and trained soprano Bronwen Forbay (29) is a BA graduate of the University of KZN's Music School and is still a student at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

She recently appeared in the leading role of a previously unknown 18th-century opera, Orpheus by Telemann, at its revival at the renowned US opera festival at Wolf Trap in the state of Virginia.

“The role of Orasia is the most demanding in the opera, above all for its passages of complicated coloratura, and in this difficult assignment Ms Forbay's achievement as both singer and actress won rave reviews,” says Blue Planet Media, social responsibility partner for the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Opera School & Choral Academy (OSCA).

“Her talent, character, personality and dramatic abilities made her one of the biggest inspirations to the founders of UKZN's Opera School and Choral Academy (OSCA) in their drive to make the school a reality - and she herself has been a committed supporter of the School, having made considerable efforts to appear in both of OSCA's international fund-raising concerts (London 2000 and New York 2003).

The way her international career is now gathering pace is a source of excitement and inspiration to everyone at OSCA.”
